Much of the research at NTSG is concerned with terrestrial biogeochemical cycling
over large regions. For example, we have performed simulations of carbon fluxes
and carbon storages over large subcontinental watersheds, over the entire U.S.,
and over the entire globe. We use exactly the same scientific core of algorithms,
Biome-BGC, for these spatial simulations as we
do for our point-based modeling. The input datasets of vegetation type, soil
characteristics, and daily meteorology for these spatial simulations are more
complicated, as is the user interface, owing to the addition of a geographic
dimension.
